BAGHDAD, Iraq (WHSV) – Twenty-three years ago on March 19, 2003, President George W. Bush announced the start of bombings in Iraq in its capital, Baghdad.
American-led forces conducted widespread attacks on different sites. The first phase of the war, targeting the Iraqi military, was successful. The next phase was a years-long conflict against an insurgency in the country, according to History.com.
The United States completed its withdrawal from the country in December 2011.
