Iranian authorities reported multiple explosions near the major oil hub of Kharg Island in the Gulf as fighting with the US continues
Iranian media reported explosions in the area around Kharg Island in the Gulf, without providing further details.
Several blasts were reported near Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil hub in the Gulf, on Saturday as fighting with the United States entered a renewed phase. Fars news agency said its correspondent heard explosions but saw no smoke in the area.
SNN reported that an Iranian tanker had been targeted by the US near the island.
The latest reports come days after hostilities between the US and Iran intensified, with the two sides exchanging their heaviest barrage since July on Wednesday. Washington struck Iran’s southern coast, while Tehran targeted US bases across the region, fuelling fears of a fresh escalation.
Iran accused the US of striking a wedding party, saying four people were killed and dozens wounded. Iran’s health minister later put the wider toll from the US strikes at 18 dead and 108 injured.
With little sign of negotiations, President Donald Trump has characterised the ongoing confrontation with Iran as an intermittent “military conflict”, rather than a full-scale war. Trump said the US controls the Strait of Hormuz and has prevented Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

His comments came after he was asked about Vice President JD Vance’s decision not to describe the confrontation as a war, after the US having resumed strikes against Iran.
“Well, I’ll tell you what, a lot of people don’t call it a war. I call it a military conflict because it’s small potatoes for us. It’s not a big thing,” Trump told reporters.
