The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on Sunday released a video showing an Iranian oil tanker sinking in the Gulf of Oman following a US military attack, in what Washington described as part of its escalating campaign against Iran.

CENTCOM confirmed that the Comoros-flagged M/T Kylo, also known as the Noxen, was destroyed after its crew abandoned the vessel.

“Thanks to the precision and professionalism of American service members, the M/T Kylo sank in the Gulf of Oman today and joined Iran’s navy at the bottom of the sea,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.

The remark mocked Tehran amid the escalating US-Iran military confrontation.

The video released by the US military showed a tanker engulfed in flames before it went under the water. CENTCOM said the vessel was among Iranian oil tankers targeted by US forces amid the widening military confrontation between Washington and Tehran.

THREE IRANIAN TANKERS TARGETED

The attack came after CENTCOM said it had struck three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday, following an attack by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on US Navy warships.

The M/T Kylo was one of three Iranian crude oil tankers targeted by US forces. While the Kylo was sunk, the other two vessels — the M/T Downy and M/T Stark 1 — were permanently disabled but remained afloat, according to the US military.

The attacks mark a major escalation in US military operations against Iranian commercial and petroleum-linked assets, with the strikes threatening to further disrupt oil shipments and maritime trade in the region.

The Gulf of Oman is a strategically important waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea and is a major route for energy shipments. Any disruption to commercial shipping in the area could have wider implications for regional trade and global energy markets.

IRAN CONDEMNS ATTACKS

Iran has strongly condemned the US attacks on its commercial vessels.

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India, in a post on X, shared Iran’s condemnation of the alleged attacks on Iranian commercial ships in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the US actions as “illegal and irresponsible” and accused Washington of continuing its military aggression, naval blockade and economic warfare against Iran.

The ministry said the attacks violated Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against states. It further described the attacks as a war crime and a threat to international peace, security and maritime trade.

IRAN STRIKES BACK

The IRGC said the operation demonstrated its offensive capabilities and warned that continued US “hostile and aggressive actions” would trigger “devastating responses” from Iran’s armed forces.

“The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the other Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran remain determined and resolute in defending the sovereignty and security of Islamic Iran,” read a tweet by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India.
