U.S.-Backed Oil Tanker Turns Back Near Strait of Hormuz

WANA (Sep 07) – An oil tanker that was being supported by the U.S. Navy while approaching the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz changed course on Monday, September 7, and turned back toward the Gulf of Oman.

According to recorded tracking data for the TITAN HARMONY, the vessel was moving northeast from the southern waters of the Strait of Hormuz before reversing course near the entrance to the strait.

Tanker Returns Toward Gulf of Oman

The vessel’s recorded track shows that, at approximately 26.3°N, 56.2°E, the tanker abandoned its approach toward the Strait of Hormuz and changed course toward the southeast.

The change of course came as the U.S. Navy was providing support for the tanker’s passage through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz. Despite the support, the TITAN HARMONY did not continue its passage and instead returned toward the waters of the Gulf of Oman.
