Israeli ground forces supported by airstrikes have killed several members of the Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military reported on Friday.
Hezbollah positions have also been destroyed and weapons seized since the start of targeted ground attacks about a week ago, according to the report.
Fighting between Hezbollah and Israeli troops is ongoing in Khiam, according to Lebanese security sources. The severe fighting has moved to the north of the city, with Israeli troops making inroads up to 7 kilometres inside Lebanon, the report said.
Hezbollah has also launched rockets and drones towards Israel.
Germany and France have come out against a major Israeli offensive into southern Lebanon, with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stressing his country’s opposition during a visit to Israel.
Responding after a joint meeting, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said that the Lebanese government and military were not doing enough to counter Hezbollah.
On Monday, the Israeli military said it had launched “limited and targeted ground operations” inside Lebanon.
Following Israeli and US attacks on Iran, Hezbollah renewed rocket strikes against Israel in early March for the first time since a November 2024 ceasefire.
The Iran-backed militia was to have been disarmed according to the agreement, but this has not been done.
