Tehran (TDI): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Monday and was received by his Iranian counterpart and officials from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Iranian state media reported.
The visit comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement with both Iran and the United States.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei had earlier said Naqvi’s visit was taking place within the framework of bilateral relations. He described ties between Tehran and Islamabad as “very good,” saying relations between the two countries had expanded across various areas in recent months.
Baghaei said the two sides were expected to discuss understandings reached previously, including those agreed at the presidential level. He also said there was no plan to exchange any specific messages as part of a mediation effort.
Naqvi has been involved in Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts concerning the regional conflict, alongside Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir.

According to officials cited by Anadolu, discussions during the visit are expected to include the recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil and economic infrastructure, as well as efforts to revive stalled peace talks between Washington and Tehran.
Pakistan has warned that the escalation in Yemen could further complicate an already fragile regional security situation. The Tehran visit is Naqvi’s sixth since the United States and Israel launched military action against Iran in February. Pakistan has maintained contacts with both Tehran and Washington during the conflict and has sought to facilitate diplomatic engagement.
The visit also comes as tensions have increased around the Strait of Hormuz. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said Monday that a tanker travelling through the strategic waterway was struck by a projectile, leaving two crew members with minor injuries. The vessel continued towards its next port of call, according to the maritime security agency.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it had intercepted and destroyed a US MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media reported that the drone was brought down using an advanced aerospace air-defense system integrated into Iran’s wider air-defense network.
