Damascus, Sept. 21 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Interior participated in a regional meeting in Cairo focused on developing a comprehensive Arab strategy to combat transnational organized crime.
The “Multilateral Regional Meeting Towards a Comprehensive Arab Strategy to Combat Transnational Organized Crime” was held in the Egyptian capital from Sept. 13 to 16, bringing together representatives from Arab and international organizations.
The Syrian delegation included Brig. Gen. Hussein al-Hammadi, director of the Criminal Investigation Department, and Zaher Zaidan from the International Criminal Police Branch at the International Cooperation Department, according to the ministry.
The meeting, attended by representatives of the Arab League, the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the British Embassy, discussed key areas of the proposed strategy, including prevention, prosecution, protection and strengthening partnerships.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Syrian delegation held bilateral talks with heads of participating Arab delegations and representatives from UNODC, Naif Arab University for Security Sciences and the Arab League General Secretariat.
The discussions focused on cooperation in combating organized crime and enhancing coordination in related areas.
