Cargo ship reportedly on fire after being hit in Strait of Hormuz

Another cargo ship has come under fire in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the British maritime security agency UKMTO.

The vessel was hit by an unknown projectile, UKMTO said on Wednesday. The vessel was said to be “on fire and adrift.”

The crew was evacuated. UKMTO reported two casualties, although it was not clear whether these were deaths or injuries.

The Strait of Hormuz has recently seen regular shelling again. Iran is largely blocking traffic through the strait, which is important for the global trade in oil, gas and fertilizer, with threats and attacks on ships. The US military has also attacked civilian Iranian ships.
