The Hague, Sept. 25 (SANA) Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sjoerd Sjoerdsma said stronger ties with Syria serve mutual interests and contribute to regional security and stability, particularly on migration-related issues.
In a post on X on Friday, Sjoerdsma said Dutch support for Syria focuses on humanitarian assistance, reconstruction and creating conditions for the safe and sustainable return of refugees.
He expressed his interest in further cooperation with Syria’s Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh.
President Ahmad al-Sharaa met Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani attended the meeting.
In a related development, Syria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations organized a symposium titled “Regional Stability, Security, and Sustainable Return: The Imperative of a Syria Without Camps.”
The event brought together representatives of several UN and international organizations, including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). The event and participation of those organizations were also reported separately.
The symposium was attended by Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ibrahim Olabi and Qutaiba Kadish, Director of International Cooperation at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
