A cargo ship carrying Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Texas, US has arrived at Mangaluru Port on Sunday. In the last 7 days, about four ships carrying gas and crude oil reached India via sea.
Earlier, on March 18, the crude oil tanker ‘Jag Laadki’ arrived at Adani Ports in Gujarat. Meanwhile, two other LPG carriers, MT Shivalik and MT Nanda Devi, arrived in India on March 16 and 17, carrying about 92,712 metric tons of gas. However, all three ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
About 22 Indian ships are still stranded in the Persian Gulf. However, all of them are safe. The Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf is one of the world’s important shipping routes. About 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through here.
When did the last 3 ships arrive in India?
March 18: Jag Ladki tanker arrived with 81 thousand metric tons of crude oil

This picture is of the Jag Ladki ship at Mundra Port in Gujarat.
The Indian-flagged crude oil tanker ‘Jag Ladki’ arrived at Mundra Port (Adani Ports) in Gujarat. This tanker contained approximately 80,886 metric tons of crude oil. This oil came from the UAE, loaded at Fujairah Port.
March 17: Nanda Devi ship reached India carrying 46 thousand metric tons of LPG

The Nanda Devi ship also arrived at the port of Gujarat.
According to the Ministry of Shipping, the ship named Nanda Devi also brought about 46 thousand tons of LPG to India. The ship arrived at Vadinar (Jamnagar) port in Gujarat.
March 16: Shivalik ship brought 46 thousand metric tons of LPG to Gujarat

Shivalik was the first ship that came to India amidst war conditions.
Amidst the war, the LPG carrier ship Shivalik reached India with gas from Qatar. This ship arrived at Mundra Port in Gujarat. The Shivalik ship carries approximately 46 thousand metric tons of LPG, which is said to be equivalent to about 32.4 lakh domestic gas cylinders.
The ship departed for India on March 14, crossing the Strait of Hormuz. Amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, this was the first LPG ship to reach India.
LPG Crisis – States to get 20% more gas from March 23
The Centre has instructed states to increase LPG supply amidst the ongoing gas crisis in the country. From March 23, states will now be given 20% more gas than before. After this, the total supply received by states will reach 50% of the pre-crisis level.
Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, informed all Chief Secretaries of states and Union Territories by writing a letter. It stated that community kitchens, restaurants, dhabas, hotels, and industrial canteens should be given priority.
Along with this, instructions have been given to prioritize providing 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders to migrant workers. Meanwhile, steps have also been asked to be taken to prevent black marketing or misuse of gas.
Why the arrival of the ship in India is a big deal?
The United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, 2026, targeting several military and nuclear sites. In this operation, several ministers and officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, were killed. The US named it Operation Epic Fury.
Due to the war, supplies from the Strait of Hormuz were disrupted. India imports 80-85% of its LPG from here. India is the world’s second-largest LPG importer. More than 60% of the country’s LPG comes from abroad.
Due to this, conditions like an LPG shortage arose in India, but the Indian government continuously appealed to people to avoid rumors. The government stated that there is no shortage of LPG and oil in the country.
The Strait of Hormuz is a waterway about 167 km long, connecting the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea. Due to the Iran war, this route is no longer safe. Considering the danger, no oil tankers are passing through there.
20% of the world’s total petroleum passes through here. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait also depend on it for their exports.
