President Donald Trump was in Alaska on Tuesday, blathering away at a rally in an attempt to shore up his fragile ego as his tariffs and war in Iran continue to make his presidency one of the least popular in modern history.

“I was in Iowa making a speech, and I’m driving along the highway, and unlike Sleepy Joe and that group, I look at the gas pumps all the time—I want to see what the price is,” he said. “This was just before I had to do an excursion down to the Islamic Republic of Iran. And I’m in Iowa, driving down the road: $1.95 a gallon. $1.85 at the second station, a gallon. We had a good, solid place, Iowa.”

He then tried to claim that his war in Iran is “going to end very soon.”

To recap: Trump claimed to have seen gas prices that he thought were amazing, so he launched air strikes on Iran and sent prices skyrocketing—all while claiming that Iran was “two weeks away from having a nuclear weapon.”

There’s no evidence that Iran was even two years away from having a nuclear weapon, much less two weeks.

Meanwhile, Iowa’s current average gas price is more than $4.20 per gallon. In the week leading up to the launch of Trump’s war, the average gas price throughout the Midwest was about $2.68, with the lowest prices floating around $2.58.

But desperate times call for desperate lies.
