The United Arab Emirates closed some beaches after detecting an oil spill from a tanker in the Persian Gulf.
The UAE climate ministry detected the spill off the coast of Umm Al Quwain, north of Dubai, and temporarily closed all beaches and coastal areas in the emirate, the ministry said in a post on X. Odors noticed there and in the emirates of Sharjah and Ajman don’t pose health risks to residents. It didn’t name the leaking tanker.
