A series of explosions shook several Iranian cities Monday evening, with local media outlets describing the strikes as US-Israeli operations. The blasts were reported across multiple provinces, hitting the capital Tehran as well as Karaj, located west of the capital, Tabriz in the northwest, Shiraz in the south, and the strategic port city of Bushehr along the Persian Gulf.
Tehran among key locations hit
According to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, multiple sites within Tehran were targeted, including areas near Mehrabad Airport, a residential building on Hashemi Street in District 21, locations close to Hyperstar on Fadaiyan Eslam Street, a textile facility in Rey, and districts including Hakimiyeh (Telo) and Shian. Iranian media reports confirmed explosions in other cities as well, though details regarding the scope of destruction and potential casualties remain unconfirmed.
Regional tensions escalate further
The strikes come amid heightened military confrontation between Iran and the US-Israeli alliance, which launched an air offensive against Iranian targets on Feb. 28. That campaign has claimed more than 1,340 lives, including Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has responded with drone and missile attacks on Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting American military assets, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and widespread disruptions to global markets and aviation.
