BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The war in Iraq hit home for Vermonters on this day in history.
Chief Warrant Officer Erik Halvorsen, a U.S. Army helicopter pilot, was killed in a crash in central Iraq on April 2, 2003.
The 40-year-old was laid to rest two weeks later in his hometown of Bennington.
Halvorsen was the first Vermont serviceman killed in the Second Gulf War.
