A STRIKE on a bridge by the U.S. near Tehran has intensified the conflict with Iran, leaving at least eight dead and dozens injured, as President Donald Trump warned that further attacks were imminent.
Reuters reported on Friday that the attack on the B1 bridge linking Tehran and Karaj on April 2 killed eight people and wounded 95, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency.
Iran’s state broadcaster reported that two strikes hit the bridge about an hour apart, with the second occurring as emergency responders were attending to the wounded.
Trump publicly celebrated the strike, posting a video of the explosion and declaring there was “much more to follow”.
He also urged Tehran to “MAKE A DEAL BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE, AND THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF WHAT STILL COULD BECOME A GREAT COUNTRY!”
A US military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the bridge had been targeted as a military supply route for Iran’s missile and drone operations.
However, Iran’s Mehr news agency rejected the claim, stating, “Bridge B1 has not yet been inaugurated,” raising questions over its military relevance.
It remains unclear whether the bridge was open to the public at the time of the strike, or whether the casualties were on the structure or nearby. The attack coincided with the final day of Nowruz, when many Iranians traditionally spend time outdoors.
The Israeli military confirmed it was not responsible for the strike, identifying it as a US operation. Washington has not formally commented.
Legal experts said the legitimacy of the attack would depend on whether the bridge constituted a military objective.
“Whether the bridge was a lawful military objective would depend on the facts,” said Brian Finucane of the International Crisis Group.
“My read is that bridge was targeted not to provide any military advantage but in the hopes of coercing Tehran and generating content.” – April 3, 2026
