Al-Sudour Dam resort in Diyala, northern Iraq, re-emerged as
a key tourist destination after years of drought and decline, with recent
rainfall restoring water levels and attracting large numbers of visitors.

Families and young people are flocking to the site to enjoy
the green landscapes surrounding the dam. The scenery has revived memories of
spring seasons, with mild weather and natural views creating a festive
atmosphere as visitors gather for picnics, barbecues, and recreational
activities.

Visitor Mohammed Al-Abadi told Shafaq News that “the resort
suffers from outdated and neglected infrastructure,” calling for government
intervention to develop facilities, including seating areas and restrooms, to
transform it into a fully integrated tourist site.

“Sustaining visitor turnout depends on effective water
resource management and preserving water levels and green spaces,” he said,
noting that tourism remains closely tied to environmental conditions and can
recover when properly supported.
