A massive anti-US rally was held in Iran’s capital Tehran on Monday, the day Washington said it would start blockading Iranian ports.
Video from Reuters shows a plaza filled with people carrying the Iranian flag and portraits of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The crowd chanted slogans such as “US is the god’s enemy.”
A woman taking part in the protest noted that US President Donald Trump said he would strike Iran’s power plants and infrastructure, and take one of its islands, but has not followed through on any of his threats.
She said they are just empty promises and added, “We are not afraid of his threats and we have no fear at all.”
A male protester said Trump’s recent statements and actions “clearly demonstrate that the United States has reached a point of desperation and helplessness in confronting Iran’s capabilities.”
Another woman said Trump has made many threats but carried out none of them. She said even if they are carried out, “our country’s armed forces will fully respond to them.”
