The integration process between Syria’s government and the SDG (Syrian Democratic Forces) is moving forward in the country’s northeast. After government security forces took over security duties in Hasakah, prisons previously held by the SDG are now being transferred to state control.

Prisons to be handed over this week

Ahmed Hilali, spokesperson for the Special Commission tasked with linking Hasakah’s facilities to the government, announced that the SDG will hand over all prisons under its control in Hasakah to the Interior Ministry within the week. The move follows an integration agreement signed between the SDG and the government on January 29, which also includes ongoing prisoner exchanges.

Prisoner releases and leadership visit

The SDG announced that a fourth group of detainees was released yesterday as part of the agreement, bringing the total number of freed prisoners to over 1,500. Meanwhile, Syrian media reported that SDG leaders Mazloum Abdi and Ilham Ahmed traveled to the capital Damascus yesterday to discuss the integration process.
