LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) – Lebanon’s police chief is expressing frustration with the court system for slow-walking paperwork for some criminal cases, putting police at further risk.
Lebanon officers were investigating a home on Eldridge Street for suspected drug activity. They eventually got probable cause for a warrant on Friday and found drugs, cash, and firearms inside. Multiple people were arrested on various charges.
Lebanon Chief Phil Roberts says the incident underscores ongoing challenges within the criminal justice system, where individuals facing significant felony charges are released and continue to engage in criminal activity.
“One of these particular individuals that had numerous outstanding felony warrants hadn’t been entered into the system, and his warrant had been in effect and issued by a judge about a week prior. So, that just really creates an unnecessary risk for law enforcement,” Roberts said.
The New Hampshire Judicial System did not respond to a request for comment about the chief’s concerns.
