Diplomats await Tehran’s reply amid rising pressure and strategic demands. The outcome could reshape whether talks resume or regional tensions intensify.
The United States says it awaits Iran’s response before resuming peace talks, while Tehran is pressing its own demands. Both positions remain key factors in maintaining tension on the regional stage.
According to sources, Iran is not ready to return to negotiations while the port blockade by the U.S. Navy continues. In response to the extension of the ceasefire, U.S. President Donald Trump announced its indefinite prolongation; White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt explained that the duration of the agreement would be determined by the president himself.
On the other hand, Tehran says it will agree to new negotiations only after the port blockades by the United States are lifted. According to Iran’s state television, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the armed forces are prepared for any further threats.
Leavitt noted that Trump is pressing for Iran to transfer stockpiles of highly enriched uranium, something Iran is not doing at the moment.
He’s not in a hurry,” Leavitt told Fox News. “For the president, it’s important that they hand over this enriched uranium. He has made that clear to them. And now we are waiting for a response from the Iranian regime.

Negotiations and the Parties’ Positions
Iran states that it will not resume negotiations until the port blockade by the United States is lifted. Iran’s state television, citing the Foreign Ministry, underscores the armed forces’ readiness for any further threats.
President Massoud Pezeshkian stated that Iran welcomes negotiations, but “the blockade and threats are the main obstacles to genuine negotiations”.
In response to events on Wednesday, Trump hinted at easing tensions, thanking Iran for heeding his request to cancel some penalties. Iran’s Mizan News Agency, close to the judiciary, reported that none of those sentenced to death had been executed.
Their actions bear signs of criminal offenses provided for by Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ‘Threats or Violence against a Law Enforcement Officer’ and Article 194 ‘Deliberate Destruction or Damage to Property’. The respective notices have been sent to the National Police

Meanwhile, regional players – Israel and Lebanon – are set to begin talks in Washington on Thursday. Israel and Hezbollah are pursuing parallel actions, and the ceasefire between them remains in effect until April 26; mutual accusations of attacks have been noted. Any return to full-scale clashes in Lebanon could complicate the path to talks with Iran, which regards this Islamist group as its key ally, the report notes.
The situation remains under close international scrutiny: the negotiation process remains the main topic of discussion between the sides, and specific dates and formats of meetings remain uncertain.
