WANA (Apr 24) – The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) announced on Friday that its diplomatic staff has returned to Tehran, marking the end of a temporary suspension of operations triggered by regional security concerns.
According to a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Swiss team arrived back in the Iranian capital on April 20, 2026. The embassy had previously shuttered its doors on March 11, 2026, citing a volatile security environment.
The ministry detailed that four embassy staff members reached Tehran via a land route through the Republic of Azerbaijan. The team is currently on-site managing the logistical preparations necessary for a “gradual resumption” of the mission’s activities.
While the embassy serves Swiss interests, it also plays a critical role as a diplomatic intermediary, often acting as the protecting power for United States interests in Iran.
