Speaking to reporters in Russia, Araghchi said Trump had sought talks because the United States has not achieved any of its objectives

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday said that Tehran is reviewing a request from US President Donald Trump for negotiations, according to a Times of Israel report citing a post on the minister’s Telegram account.

Earlier, speaking to reporters in Russia, Araghchi said Trump had sought talks because the United States has not achieved any of its objectives.

He also described Iran as “stable, solid” during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg, as reported by Russian state television.

The Iranian foreign minister further said that due to the war with the United States and Israel, “the world has now realised Iran’s true power” and “it has become clear that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a stable, solid and powerful system,” during the meeting.

Araghchi added that Russia has stood by Iran and that both countries will continue their “strategic partnership.”

Separately, Trump is expected to meet top national security officials on Monday to discuss the ongoing stalemate in talks with Iran, according to a CNN report, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

The meeting comes after he abruptly canceled plans for envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to travel to Pakistan for another round of negotiations over the weekend.

Officials are expected to review Trump’s options going forward, including whether to resume a US bombing campaign that has been paused after a ceasefire extension last week. Trump has appeared hesitant publicly about reviving the conflict.

The US President said he called off the trip because Iran had not provided a satisfactory negotiating proposal, and claimed Tehran later returned with an updated document.

However, he also expressed doubts about sending his team to Islamabad without clarity on possible concessions or who holds decision-making authority in Iran.

Earlier diplomatic efforts included Islamabad hosting the only round of direct US-Iran talks, which ended without progress. Recent developments had briefly raised hopes for renewed negotiations before the latest setback.
