Iran’s Supreme Leader has issued a strong warning to the United States, declaring it faces a “disgraceful defeat” amid rising tensions in the Persian Gulf.

Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has delivered one of his most forceful statements yet, saying the United States is heading towards a “disgraceful defeat” in its confrontation with Tehran.
The remarks come at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with both sides locked in a strategic standoff over the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
In a televised statement, Khamenei said Iran will continue to protect its nuclear and missile programmes, describing them as national assets. He stressed that Iran’s technological and defence capabilities, including biotechnology and nanotechnology, are part of its sovereign strength.
His comments directly counter ongoing US pressure linked to a possible nuclear agreement and maritime restrictions in the region.
Sharp warning to US presence in the Gulf
Khamenei issued a strongly worded message against foreign involvement in the region, saying external powers “have no place” in the Persian Gulf.
He added that the future of the region should be shaped by its own people, not countries acting from thousands of kilometres away. His remarks also included a direct warning that US influence in the region would not last.
The statement comes amid a fragile ceasefire and continued US naval pressure in the region. The United States has maintained restrictions affecting Iranian oil movement through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route.
The Strait carries a significant share of global crude oil and natural gas trade, and ongoing tensions have contributed to volatility in international oil prices.
Rising geopolitical and economic impact
Oil markets have already reacted to the uncertainty, with global crude benchmarks rising sharply amid fears of supply disruption.
The standoff has created a broader geopolitical risk scenario, with both sides maintaining hardline positions despite diplomatic pressure for de-escalation.
Despite the presence of a ceasefire framework, both Iran and the United States continue to maintain opposing positions. Iran has insisted on retaining strategic control over its defence and energy capabilities, while the US continues to link easing of restrictions to broader nuclear negotiations.
For now, the situation remains tense, with limited signs of immediate diplomatic breakthrough.
