In a new written statement delivered on state television on Thursday, Iran Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said Americans who come to the Persian Gulf “from thousands of kilometers away to act with greed and malice have no place in it — except at the bottom of its waters,” according to The Associated Press.
“By God’s help and power, the bright future of the Persian Gulf region will be a future without America,” he said, per AP.
Khamenei made clear that Iran has no plans to give up its “nuclear and missile capabilities,” the news agency noted.
“Ninety million proud and honorable Iranians inside and outside the country regard all of Iran’s identity-based, spiritual, human, scientific, industrial and technological capacities — from nanotechnology and biotechnology to nuclear and missile capabilities — as national assets, and will protect them,” Khamenei added, per AP.
Khamenei has still not been heard or seen publicly since he assumed the position following his father’s killing in a U.S.-Israeli airstrike.
