Islam Times – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi ridiculed US President Donald Trump for misrepresenting the Strait of Hormuz as the “Strait of Trump”, calling any attempt to rename the strategic waterway a “terrible mistake.”In a post on his X account on the occasion of Iran’s Persian Gulf Day on Thursday, Araqchi referred to the anniversary of the expulsion of Portuguese forces from the Strait of Hormuz by Iranians some 400 years ago and stressed the historical identity of the region.
The Iranian foreign minister reminded the US president that calling the Strait of Hormuz by any other name would amount to a serious error.
“Today is Persian Gulf Day in Iran, marking our ancestors’ expulsion of Portuguese from Strait of Hormuz 400 years ago,” Araqchi said in his post.
“POTUS uses the correct term ‘Persian Gulf’, not the Pentagon’s fake version. But calling Hormuz anything else is indeed a ‘terrible mistake’,” Araqchi added.
