Tehran: A senior Iranian military official has warned that a renewed war with the United States is “likely”, amid rising tensions over stalled diplomatic negotiations. The warning comes after US President Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with a recent Iranian proposal.

US President Donald Trump stated that he was “not satisfied” with Iran’s offer, signalling continued uncertainty over diplomatic progress. He also indicated a preference to avoid military escalation, although tensions remain high between both sides.

According to state media reports, Iran’s draft proposal was delivered to the United States through Pakistan as a mediator on Thursday evening. However, details of the proposal have not been officially disclosed.

Iran questions US commitment to agreements

Mohammad Jafar Asadi, a senior figure in Iran’s military central command, suggested that Washington cannot be trusted to uphold commitments. He stated that past actions indicate a lack of adherence to agreements, further complicating peace efforts.

Reports suggest the Iranian draft included provisions related to reopening the Strait of Hormuz for normal shipping and easing restrictions on Iranian ports before further discussions on its nuclear programme.

The conflict, which reportedly escalated after strikes involving the US and Israel earlier this year, has been under a temporary ceasefire. However, recent developments have raised concerns over the stability of the truce.

Washington has maintained that any agreement must include guarantees preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons, a key sticking point in ongoing negotiations.
