Clashes are intensifying again in southern Lebanon, with tensions rising after Hezbollah denied a ceasefire is in effect.
Walter Bloomberg, a financial news account on X, reported on May 4 that Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem said “there is no ceasefire” and claimed military action by Israel and the US was continuing.
The Israel Defense Forces said it had resumed airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon after detecting armed activity near its troops.
Hezbollah said it carried out 11 attacks in a single day, describing it as its largest wave of attacks since the ceasefire.
Local reports said evacuation orders and additional airstrikes continued, causing casualties. The cumulative death toll has surpassed 2,600, with more than 8,000 injured.
Markets are watching the possibility that any broader spread of conflict across the Middle East could increase volatility in energy markets and global financial markets.
