<\/p>\nEleven Lebanon County residents have been diagnosed with measles following an outbreak that began with the hospitalization of three individuals, the Pennsylvania Department of Health announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Of the 11 cases, 10 individuals were unvaccinated and one had a vaccination status that could not be verified. All are no longer infectious, according to the department.<\/p>\n
DOH staff conducted contact tracing after the initial hospitalizations and identified additional mild cases among other county residents. The department also held a vaccination clinic in Lebanon on Tuesday, where 26 people received the measles vaccine.<\/p>\n
The local cases account for nearly half of the 23 measles cases reported statewide in 2026. The remaining 12 were tied to prior, unrelated cases earlier this year. Of all 23 Pennsylvania cases, 22 involved unvaccinated individuals.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need the public\u2019s support to contain this virus,\u201d Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen said, urging anyone who believes they may have had measles in the past month to call the department\u2019s toll-free line at 877-724-3258. Callers may remain anonymous.<\/p>\n
The department also issued a statewide health alert to providers outlining the signs and symptoms of measles.<\/p>\n
Bogen emphasized that vaccination remains the most effective protection against the highly contagious disease.<\/p>\n
\u201cGetting vaccinated protects yourself, your family, and your community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
