Authorities did not<br \/>\nspecify the historical era to which the pieces belong.<\/p>\n<p>Iraq has recovered more than 40,000 artifacts in 2024 and 2025 through<br \/>\ndomestic seizures and international repatriation campaigns, according to the<br \/>\nMinistry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities. In one of the latest operations<br \/>\non Tuesday, the National Security Service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shafaq.com\/en\/society\/Iraq-seizes-255-archaeological-artifacts-between-Basra-and-Dhi-Qar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">uncovered<\/a> 255 archaeological relics<br \/>\nhidden inside abandoned quarries between the southern provinces of Basra and<br \/>\nDhi Qar.<\/p>\n<p>Under Iraq\u2019s Antiquities Law No. 55 of 2002, individuals who fail to<br \/>\nhand over archaeological finds to the state within 30 days face penalties of up<br \/>\nto 10 years in prison, in addition to fines worth twice the estimated value of<br \/>\nthe objects.
