Iran&#8217;s military said the U.S. targeted two ships entering the Strait of Hormuz and carried out strikes on Iranian territory. The U.S. military said it fired in response to Iranian attacks.<\/p>\n<p>U.S President Donald Trump told an ABC reporter that the ceasefire was still in effect and sought to downplay the exchange. &#8220;It&#8217;s just a love \u200ctap,&#8221; Trump told the \u2060reporter, \u2060according to her social media post. Iranian state media said after the strikes that the situation was back to normal.<br \/>The renewed hostilities broke out as Washington was awaiting \u200bIran&#8217;s response to a U.S. proposal that would stop the fighting but leave the most contentious issues, such as Iran&#8217;s nuclear program, unresolved \u200bfor now.<\/p>\n<p>The two sides have occasionally exchanged gunfire since the ceasefire took effect on April 7.<\/p>\n<p>Iran&#8217;s top joint military command accused the U.S. of violating the ceasefire by targeting an Iranian oil tanker and another ship, and of carrying out air attacks on civilian \u200bareas on Qeshm Island in the strait and nearby coastal areas of Bandar Khamir \u2060Sirik on \u200cthe mainland. The military said it responded by attacking U.S. military vessels east of the Strait of \u200bHormuz and south of \u200bthe port of Chabahar.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ET logo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/118783427.cms.png\" width=\"90%\"\/>Live Events<br \/>A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said the strikes inflicted &#8220;significant damage,&#8221; \u2060but U.S. Central Command said none of its assets were hit.<br \/>Centcom said Iran \u200bhad used missiles, drones and small boats in the attack, which targeted three Navy destroyers. \u200bThe U.S. said it targeted missile and drone sites and other locations in response.&#8221;CENTCOM does not seek escalation but remains positioned and ready to protect American forces,&#8221; the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>Iran&#8217;s Press TV later reported that following several hours of fire &#8220;the situation on Iranian islands and coastal cities by the Strait of Hormuz is back to normal now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time the two sides have exchanged fire since the ceasefire started.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the U.S. military said it destroyed six Iranian small boats and intercepted Iranian cruise \u200cmissiles and drones as Tehran sought to thwart a U.S. naval effort to open shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>Iran-U.S. Ceasefire<\/p>\n<p>Before the latest exchanges, the U.S. had floated a proposal to formally end the \u200bconflict.
