{"id":108265,"date":"2026-05-11T11:50:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T11:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/108265\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T11:50:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T11:50:15","slug":"eurovision-gives-israel-formal-warning-over-call-for-viewers-to-vote-10-times-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/108265\/","title":{"rendered":"Eurovision gives Israel formal warning over call for viewers to \u2018vote 10 times\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a data-ylk=\"slk:Israel;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/israel\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Israel<\/a>\u2019s national broadcaster has received a formal warning from <a data-ylk=\"slk:Eurovision;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/eurovision\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Eurovision<\/a> organisers after it encouraged viewers to \u201cvote 10 times\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli public broadcaster, known as <a data-ylk=\"slk:Kan;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/kan\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Kan<\/a>, <a data-ylk=\"slk:was found to have broken the rules of the song contest;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aol.co.uk\/news\/why-hasn-t-israel-banned-183503612.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was found to have broken the rules of the song contest <\/a>on Friday (8 May) when it shared videos on social media encouraging fans to support its 2026 entry, Noam Bettan.<\/p>\n<p>In the clips, Bettan, who is competing this year with the song \u201cMichelle\u201d, told his fans to use all 10 of their allocated votes to support him in the first semi-final on Tuesday 12 May.<\/p>\n<p>The message from Bettan, 29, was apparently recorded in several languages including French, German, English, Greek and Italian.<\/p>\n<p>Kan\u2019s endorsement of the videos was found to have breached <a data-ylk=\"slk:new rules designed to limit third-party campaigns;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aol.co.uk\/news\/eurovision-change-voting-rules-amid-161536334.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new rules designed to limit third-party campaigns<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on Saturday (9 May), Eurovision director <a data-ylk=\"slk:Martin Green;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/martin-green\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Green<\/a> said: \u201cWithin 20 minutes, we had contacted the Kan delegation to ask them to immediately stop any distribution of the videos and remove them from any platforms where they had been published. While Israel has regularly participated in the competition, the current events and the genocide currently taking place make it impossible for us to look the other way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not accurate to claim that Eurovision is merely an apolitical music festival. We are all aware that the contest carries significant political implications. The Israeli government is equally aware of this fact and leverages the event on the international stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eurovision 2026 kicks off this week in Vienna with the first semi-final on Tuesday 12 May, and the second semi-final on Thursday 14 May.
