HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) \u2014 Sen. Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina Republican, asked President Donald Trump on Sunday to consider \u201cchanging course\u201d on his path to secure peace with Iran.<\/p>\n
The lawmaker said in a social media post<\/a> that Tehran\u2019s concerning behavior over the past several weeks has spurred the need for an expanded military operation in the region. The U.S. escorted American ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for Gulf oil, in a \u201cProject Freedom\u201d earlier this month before Iran launched attacks <\/a>nearby.<\/p>\n Washington and Tehran have since been unable <\/a>to agree on a deal to reopen the strait, which has been shut down since the war\u2019s start, and end the fighting.<\/p>\n \u201cBetween their constant attacks on international shipping, the persistent attacks on our Middle Eastern allies and now a totally unacceptable response to America\u2019s diplomatic proposal, it is in my view, time to consider changing course,\u201d Graham wrote on X. \u201cProject Freedom Plus sounds pretty good right about now.\u201d<\/p>\n It’s unclear how Iran responded to the U.S.’s recent proposal to end the war. Tehran\u2019s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said in a statement <\/a>on Friday, though, that Iranians never fold under pressure, despite \u201creckless\u201d U.S. actions.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery time a diplomatic solution is on the table, the U.S. opts for a reckless military adventure. Is it a crude pressure tactic? Or the result of a spoiler once again duping POTUS into another quagmire?\u201d Araghchi wrote.<\/p>\n
