Iraqi and Iranian officials stressed
\nthe need to prevent armed groups in the Kurdistan Region from launching
\nactivities or cross-border attacks that could threaten regional stability
\nduring high-level security talks in Baghdad on Monday.<\/p>\n
The meeting of the Iraqi-Iranian High
\nSecurity Committee focused on implementing the bilateral security agreement
\nbetween the two countries, tightening border controls, and enhancing joint
\ncoordination to prevent infiltration and movements by \u201cterrorist or armed
\ngroups.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Iranian side presented
\ninformation regarding alleged activities of some Iranian armed groups based in Iraqi
\nKurdistan, while both sides agreed to take the necessary measures to address
\nthe issue and prevent any activity that could undermine regional security.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, Iraqi National
\nSecurity Adviser Qassim al-Araji reaffirmed Baghdad\u2019s position that Iraqi
\nterritory must not be used to launch hostile acts or military operations
\nagainst neighboring countries.<\/p>\n
Iran has long accused Kurdish
\nIranian opposition groups in northern Iraq of smuggling fighters and weapons
\nacross the border to carry out attacks inside Iran.<\/p>\n
In 2023, Baghdad and Tehran signed a
\nsecurity agreement aimed at tightening border controls and enhancing security
\ncooperation. Under the deal, Iraq committed to preventing armed groups in the Region
\nfrom using Iraqi territory to launch attacks on Iran. Kurdistan Regional
\nGovernment (KRG) officials have repeatedly assured Tehran that Kurdistan will
\nnot be used as a base to threaten neighboring countries.<\/p>\n

\nthe United States, Iran, and Israel on February 28, the Kurdistan Region has
\nwitnessed repeated missile and drone incidents, including strikes targeting
\nsites linked to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups. On Sunday, four missiles
\nstruck<\/a> a camp hosting these groups in the Alana Valley of Khalifan district,
\nnortheast of Erbil, according to a source who spoke to Shafaq News.<\/p>\n
