Under the golden lights of the historic Kufa
\nMosque in Najaf province, worshippers gather before sunset during Ramadan,
\nreciting the Quran and raising prayers in a moment of calm that contrasts
\nsharply with the tense regional backdrop of war stretching from Iran to Israel
\nand the United States.<\/p>\n
Inside the mosque\u2019s courtyards and around the
\nshrine of Muslim bin Aqeel in the city of Kufa, thousands of visitors from
\nacross Iraq and several Asian countries spend the final minutes before the
\nMaghrib call to prayer in devotion. Worshippers sitting in circles reading the
\nQuran, and volunteers prepared simple iftar meals for fasting visitors.<\/p>\n
After sunset, the faithful perform Maghrib and
\nIsha prayers before visiting the shrine, continuing a Ramadan tradition that
\ndraws thousands to one of Iraq\u2019s most prominent religious landmarks.<\/p>\n
Across Iraq, similar scenes of solidarity and
\ngenerosity unfold each evening as communities organize volunteer initiatives to
\nhelp fasting people break their fast \u2014moments that capture the country\u2019s
\nenduring social cohesion even as regional tensions intensify.<\/p>\n

In Al-Sulaymaniyah of Iraqi Kurdistan, the local
\norganization Bela has spent the entire month distributing quick iftar meals to
\nfasting people stuck on the streets at sunset, including travelers, workers,
\nand commuters unable to reach their homes in time for the evening call to
\nprayer.<\/p>\n
Volunteers spread out across busy intersections
\nand main roads shortly before sunset, handing out packaged meals so fasting
\npeople can break their fast on time. <\/p>\n
Azima Hassan, the project supervisor, told
\nShafaq News that what makes this effort special is that many of the volunteers
\nare elderly people who continue to participate actively in community service, noting
\nthat volunteer teams begin preparations well before sunset, assembling meals
\ncontaining essential food items that allow fasting people to break their fast
\nwith dignity. Distribution continues until the Maghrib call to prayer at
\nlocations with heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile in Baghdad, volunteer teams are
\norganizing large communal iftar tables that bring together hundreds of people
\nfrom different backgrounds, reinforcing a sense of unity during the holy month.<\/p>\n
Ismail Marzouq, head of the Al-Adhamiya
\nEmergency Team and supervisor of a daily iftar campaign, told Shafaq News that
\nthe initiative relies entirely on donations from residents of Al-Adhamiya and
\nnearby neighborhoods without any government or political support.<\/p>\n

\nsuch as rice, dates, and cooking oil used to prepare the meals, he said.<\/p>\n
According to Marzouq, volunteers prepare and
\ndistribute between 800 and 1,000 iftar meals each day to fasting people
\ntraveling between the al-Adhamiya and al-Kadhimiya districts at sunset.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe communal table brings
\ntogether different segments of Iraqi society under one call to prayer,\u201d he
\nsaid, adding that the main goal is to strengthen social ties and reinforce
\nvalues of solidarity and compassion.<\/p>\n
Abdulrahman Muslim, one of the beneficiaries,
\nsaid he regularly attends the communal iftar with his family because of the
\nwelcoming atmosphere and the variety of meals offered.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe table serves excellent
\nfood every day and has become a place where families gather in a comfortable
