The president described Iran’s response as “unacceptable” and added, “After reading a piece of garbage they sent us, I didn’t even finish reading it.” While the specifics of Iran’s response remain unclear, the U.S. reportedly offered sanctions relief, unfreezing Iranian funds, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and a moratorium on Iran’s nuclear program. Trump had previously said that if Iran did not accept the terms, the U.S. would start striking the country again.”Yeah, I have a plan. The plan is very simple. In war, you have to change. But you have to do different plans in different days. But the plan is they cannot have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said. The Strait of Hormuz has become a focal point of the conflict, with both sides exchanging fire and blockading ships. The standoff in the critical oil route has pushed gas prices nationwide to more than $4.50 a gallon, up from just under $3 before the war began. To address the rising costs, Trump confirmed he supports suspending the federal gas tax, which is about 18 cents per gallon. “As soon as it’s over, you’re going to see gasoline and oil drop like a rock,” he said. While Trump can call for suspending the gas tax, Congress would need to approve it. Some lawmakers are introducing legislation to suspend the tax, which could provide some relief but would not fully offset the price spike drivers are currently experiencing. The president is expected to travel to China tomorrow, where the White House says the war in the Middle East will be among the topics discussed. China, a major buyer of Iranian oil and one of Iran’s key economic partners, could play a role in pressuring Tehran back to the negotiating table. Trump also revealed that the U.S. sent guns and ammunition intended for protesters inside Iran to fight back against their government. However, he said Kurdish fighters, who were supposed to deliver the weapons, kept them instead, which he described as disappointing.

      WASHINGTON —

President Donald Trump said the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is “on massive life support” after rejecting Iran’s response to a U.S. peace proposal over the weekend.

“I would say the ceasefire is on massive life support, when a doctor walks in and says, ‘Sir, your loved one has approximately a 1% chance of living,'” Trump said.

The president described Iran’s response as “unacceptable” and added, “After reading a piece of garbage they sent us, I didn’t even finish reading it.”

While the specifics of Iran’s response remain unclear, the U.S. reportedly offered sanctions relief, unfreezing Iranian funds, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and a moratorium on Iran’s nuclear program.
