Lebanese leaders urged the US ambassador to Beirut to pressure Israel to halt its attacks as it pounded the country with airstrikes on Monday despite a ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war.<\/p>\n

Israel\u2019s military said one of its soldiers had been killed a day earlier in fighting near the border with Lebanon, bringing its losses to 18 troops and a civilian contractor since the war began.<\/p>\n
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met separately with US ambassador Michel Issa in preparation for a third meeting between Lebanese and Israeli representatives set to take place in Washington on Thursday and Friday.<\/p>\n

Salam said he asked Issa to\u00a0\u201cexert pressure on Israel to stop the ongoing attacks and violations, in order to consolidate the ceasefire\u201d.<\/p>\n
Israel has intensified its attacks on Lebanon of late, with weekend strikes reaching as close as around 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the capital Beirut.<\/p>\n
On Monday, Lebanon\u2019s official National News Agency (NNA) reported Israeli airstrikes on more than 30 locations in the south and east.<\/p>\n
It reported casualties in several areas, including south Lebanon\u2019s Zebdine, where it said an Israeli drone struck two people \u201cwhile they were distributing bread\u201d in a municipality vehicle to residents who had refused to leave the town.<\/p>\n
Under the terms of the ceasefire published by Washington, Israel reserves the right to act against \u201cplanned, imminent or ongoing attacks\u201d.<\/p>\n

Israel\u2019s army issued an evacuation warning ahead of strikes on seven south Lebanon towns and two others in the Bekaa region in the country\u2019s east.<\/p>\n
The NNA reported a \u201clarge wave of displacement\u201d in West Bekaa as hundreds of families fled the threatened towns.<\/p>\n
Lebanese authorities say the war has displaced more than one million people.<\/p>\n
Hezbollah claimed at least 20 attacks on Israeli military targets in south Lebanon, including bulldozing equipment, in what it said was retaliation for ceasefire violations.<\/p>\n

The Israeli army said two Hezbollah drones had damaged \u201cunmanned engineering vehicles\u201d in south Lebanon, and that its troops had \u201celiminated\u201d a militant cell there.<\/p>\n
Hezbollah drew Lebanon into the wider Middle East war on March 2 when it launched rockets at Israel to avenge the killing of Iran\u2019s supreme leader in US-Israeli strikes.<\/p>\n
Israel responded with airstrikes and a ground invasion. Its troops are operating inside an Israeli-declared \u201cyellow line\u201d that runs around 10 kilometres (six miles) north of Lebanon\u2019s border where Lebanese residents have been warned not to return.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Saudi Arabia\u2019s Al Arabiya channel on Sunday, Salam said the country was \u201cfacing the occupation of 68 Lebanese villages as a result of this war that was imposed on us\u201d.<\/p>\n
