The World Gold Council reported on Sunday that <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/gold-dec-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">gold<\/a> constituted approximately 25% of the country&#8217;s total foreign reserves this year, with no new purchases recorded since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Data for May 2026 indicated that Iraq held the 28th position globally and ranked third among Arab nations during the early part of the year. The previous month, the council had noted the same reserve level of 174.6 tons, which placed Iraq 28th worldwide and third among Arab states.<\/p>\n<p>On a global scale, the United States held the top position with reserves totaling 8,133.5 tons.
