{"id":112074,"date":"2026-05-13T15:30:28","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T15:30:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/112074\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T15:30:28","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T15:30:28","slug":"earthquake-strikes-iranian-capital-tehran-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/112074\/","title":{"rendered":"Earthquake strikes Iranian capital Tehran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">An earthquake struck the Iranian capital Tehran late on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.<\/p>\n<p>The USGS said the magnitude 4.3 quake occurred at 11:46 p.m. (2016 GMT).<\/p>\n<p>Iranian state broadcaster IRIB put the magnitude at 4.6 and said it struck east of the capital in the Pardis area at a depth of around 10 kilometres.<\/p>\n<p>There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.<\/p>\n<p>IRIB said the tremor was also felt in the suburb of Karaj, around 40 kilometres west of Tehran.<\/p>\n<p>Iran is one of the world\u2019s most seismically active countries, located at the complex convergence of the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates.<\/p>\n<p>Frequent, high-magnitude earthquakes cause significant casualties and damage due to shallow epicenters and vulnerable infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Major historical events include the 1990 Rudbar-Tarom magnitude 7.4 quake, which killed more than 40,000 people, and the 2003 Bam magnitude 6.6 quake.<\/p>\n<p>That earthquake killed more than 26,000 people and caused disasters.<\/p>\n<p>(dpa\/NAN)<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/gazettengr.com\/donate\/\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 100%;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Artboard-14.png\" alt=\"Banner\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: block;\"\/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An earthquake struck the Iranian capital Tehran late on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
