WASHINGTON, May 11 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump said on Monday that the ceasefire \u200bwith Iran was “on life support,” after dismissing Tehran’s \u200cresponse to a U.S. peace proposal as “stupid.”<\/p>\n

Trump’s swift rejection of Iran’s response on Sunday has fueled concerns that the 10-week-old conflict<\/a> \u200bwill drag on and continue to paralyze shipping \u200bthrough the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

“I would call \u2060it the weakest right now, after reading that \u200bpiece of garbage they sent us, I didn’t even \u200bfinish reading it,” Trump said of the ceasefire. “It’s on life support.”<\/p>\n

Days after Washington floated a proposal aimed at \u200breopening negotiations, Iran on Sunday released a response \u200bfocused on ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, where \u200cU.S. \u2060ally Israel is fighting Iran-backed Hezbollah militants.<\/p>\n

Tehran also demanded compensation for war damage, emphasized its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, and called on \u200bthe United \u200bStates to \u2060end its naval blockade, guarantee no further attacks, lift sanctions and remove a \u200bban on Iranian oil sales.<\/p>\n

On \u200bMonday, Trump \u2060also claimed Iran is willing to give the United States “the nuclear dust”, referring to Iran’s enriched uranium \u2060stockpile, \u200band said only China and \u200bthe U.S. have the capability to retrieve it.<\/p>\n
