{"id":112916,"date":"2026-05-14T04:47:23","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T04:47:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/112916\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T04:47:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T04:47:23","slug":"lufthansa-group-and-wizz-air-to-resume-tel-aviv-flights-after-three-month-war-hiatus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/112916\/","title":{"rendered":"Lufthansa group and Wizz Air to resume Tel Aviv flights after three-month war hiatus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Germany\u2019s Lufthansa group of carriers and Hungarian low-cost giant Wizz Air on Wednesday announced a resumption of flight operations to and from Tel Aviv\u2019s Ben Gurion Airport after the European safety agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/liveblog_entry\/eu-lifts-recommendation-for-airlines-to-avoid-operating-in-israeli-airspace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">softened<\/a> its advisory against operating in Israel\u2019s airspace following the war with Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Wizz Air said the carrier will resume all flight operations to and from Ben Gurion Airport starting May 28. Meanwhile, the German airline group \u2014 which includes Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings \u2014 said it is planning to restart flight services to and from Israel in a phased manner from June.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, just Austrian Airlines will restart flights to and from Tel Aviv on June 1. Other airlines in the group \u2014 SWISS, ITA Airways and Lufthansa \u2014 are currently planning to resume flights as early as July 1, with Eurowings expected to return to Tel Aviv by mid-July. Flight operations to Tel Aviv by Brussels Airlines will remain suspended through October 24.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Europe\u2019s reliable airline and Israel\u2019s number one low-cost airline, we are thrilled to confirm our return to Tel Aviv,\u201d stated Wizz Air Chief Commercial Officer Ian Malin. \u201cThe safety and security of our passengers and crew remain our top priority, and we have taken a cautious and measured approach to this decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wizz Air and the Lufthansa group\u2019s decisions come after the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on Tuesday softened its recommendation against operating in Israeli airspace, instead cautioning airlines to have strict risk monitoring procedures for flights over the country.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tSign up for the Tech Israel Daily<br \/>\n\t\t\tand never miss Israel&#8217;s top tech stories\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/terms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terms<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since the full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/ben-gurion-airport-set-to-reopen-as-israel-eases-flight-restrictions-after-ceasefire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reopening<\/a> of the country\u2019s airspace in early April following a temporary ceasefire agreement that halted the joint US-Israel military campaign against Iran, travelers have been mostly reliant on Israeli airlines as the majority of foreign carriers have not rushed to resume flight operations.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2026\/04\/F260409CG00007.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3800201\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/F260409CG00007-640x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\tIllustrative: Passengers at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, April 9, 2026. (Chaim Goldberg\/Flash90)<\/p>\n<p>Despite the ceasefire, major European airlines, including Air France and British Airways, have kept suspending flights to and from Israel through May and June, while US carriers, including Delta, have pushed back their return to as far as September.
