A pack of stray
\ndogs attacked four sixth-grade students in Saladin, central Iraq, while they
\nwere returning home after completing their final exams, leaving them with
\nvarying injuries, a medical source in the province\u2019s health directorate told
\nShafaq News.<\/p>\n

\nOmar told our agency that residents quickly intervened to rescue the children
\nand drive the dogs away after they directly attacked the students. He noted
\nthat stray dogs have spread across the area in recent months, particularly near
\nschools and vacant land, adding that residents have repeatedly filed complaints
\nwith local authorities over recurring incidents and fears for children\u2019s
\nsafety.<\/p>\n
Residents say stray
\ndogs have become a daily threat, especially to school students during early
\nmorning hours and after classes.<\/p>\n
Last month, a rabid dog attacked<\/a> five people, including four Official estimates place Iraq\u2019s stray dog population at more
\nchildren, in central Basra, southern Iraq.<\/p>\n
\nthan one million, with authorities reporting frequent bite incidents across the
\ncountry. Animal rights advocates, however, oppose<\/a> policies permitting the
\nkilling of stray dogs, arguing that mass culling disrupts ecological balance
\nand violates Kurdistan Region Law No. 14 of 2022, which bans the killing of
\nstray animals and requires humane treatment.<\/p>\n
