He noted<br \/>\nthat stray dogs have spread across the area in recent months, particularly near<br \/>\nschools and vacant land, adding that residents have repeatedly filed complaints<br \/>\nwith local authorities over recurring incidents and fears for children\u2019s<br \/>\nsafety.<\/p>\n<p>Residents say stray<br \/>\ndogs have become a daily threat, especially to school students during early<br \/>\nmorning hours and after classes.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, a rabid dog <a href=\"https:\/\/shafaq.com\/en\/society\/Rabid-dog-attack-injures-five-in-Iraq-s-Basra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">attacked<\/a> five people, including four<br \/>\nchildren, in central Basra, southern Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>Official estimates place Iraq\u2019s stray dog population at more<br \/>\nthan one million, with authorities reporting frequent bite incidents across the<br \/>\ncountry.
