Fawaz al-Jarba is expected to take a parliamentary seat representing
\nIraq\u2019s Nineveh province after lawmaker Abdul Rahim al-Shammari was approved as
\nAgriculture Minister in the country\u2019s new government lineup, a source within
\nthe High Electoral Commission (IHEC) told Shafaq News on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Al-Jarba serves as the first reserve candidate for the Reconstruction
\nand Development Alliance, led by former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.
\nThe bloc secured four positions in Nineveh and won a total of 46 parliamentary
\nseats in the November 2025 parliamentary election.<\/p>\n
Under Iraq\u2019s constitution and the principle of separation of powers,
\nlawmakers appointed to ministerial positions generally give up their
\nparliamentary seats to concentrate on executive responsibilities. Iraqi MPs
\npreviously advanced<\/a> a proposal requiring incoming ministers in the government
\nof Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to sign written pledges preventing them and
\nclose relatives from running in future elections.<\/p>\n
