It is the latest embarrassing revelation for Abu Dhabi which this week publicly denied claims by the Israeli government that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> secretly visited the country.<\/p>\n According to Israel’s public broadcaster Kan, Zamir held talks with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed and local security officials.<\/p>\n He joins a list of Israeli leaders that are thought to have travelled to the Gulf state during the war.<\/p>\n Netanyahu’s office said on Wednesday that the prime minister had met the UAE leader in Abu Dhabi during the war, describing the visit as a “historic breakthrough”. US and Israeli media have also reported that Israeli intelligence chiefs<\/a> visited the country in March and April.<\/p>\n A former spokesperson for the prime minister who claimed to have been on the trip wrote on social media that Abu Dhabi gave Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes in Gaza, “a welcome fit for kings”.<\/p>\n But the UAE has insisted that the visit never took place, with the foreign ministry describing Netanyahu’s claims as “entirely unfounded”.<\/p>\n Emirati officials are reportedly have privately expressed anger to the Israeli government about the leak.<\/p>\n “The Emiratis were very angry. This is not the first time such a leak has come out of the prime minister’s office, and that is exactly why Netanyahu has bene excluded and has not been able to visit there for years,” a source was quoted as saying by Israel’s i24.<\/p>\n Other Israeli media reports appeared to back up Netanyahu’s claims. “Bibi came here because he wanted to show that he does not abandon his allies,” the pro-Likud Israel Hayom quoted an Emirati official as saying.<\/p>\n The leaks come as the UAE continues to face backlash among Arab publics for its close ties with Israel. Abu Dhabi has continued to deepen its bilateral relationship with Israel under the Abraham Accords despite the genocidal assault on Gaza and aggression across the region.<\/p>\n During the Iran war, Abu Dhabi has been reported to have shared intelligence with the Israelis, received weapons systems, and hosted its troops on its soil.<\/p>\n The UAE has also been among the most hawkish of Arab states towards Iran. Reporting by Bloomberg on Friday said that Abu Dhabi had attempted to persuade Arab states to collectively join the US-Israeli attack on Iran.<\/p>\n
