\n\tIran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi<\/a>, currently visiting New Delhi for the BRICS foreign ministers\u2019 conclave, said Iran has \u201cevery reason\u201d not to trust the United States, while insisting that Washington can trust Tehran \u201cwithout a doubt\u201d.<\/p>\n


\n\tAddressing a press conference after the BRICS meeting, Araghchi said the biggest obstacle to diplomacy between Iran and the United States is a deep lack of trust rooted in years of confrontation.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n\t\tHe claimed the US turned to negotiations only after failing to achieve its objectives through pressure and conflict against Iran.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n\tHe said Iran has agreed to maintain what he described as a \u201cshaky\u201d ceasefire to give diplomacy a chance, while warning that Tehran would never surrender to threats, sanctions or military pressure.<\/p>\n


\n\t\u201cIranian people only answer to the language of respect,\u201d Araghchi said.<\/p>\n


\n\tIndia\u2019s possible role<\/p>\n


\n\tAraghchi said India could play a \u201cgreater role\u201d in efforts to stabilise the Middle East and promote dialogue.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n\t\tHe added that Tehran would welcome \u201cany constructive role\u201d from New Delhi in easing regional tensions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n\tAt the same BRICS gathering, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar warned that instability in the Middle East could seriously impact global energy supplies and trade routes.<\/p>\n


\n\tChina\u2019s support for diplomacy<\/p>\n


\n\tThe Iranian foreign minister also praised China, calling Beijing a strategic partner with \u201cgood intentions\u201d. He said Tehran would welcome Chinese support for diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the regional conflict.<\/p>\n


\n\tStrait of Hormuz warning<\/p>\n


\n\tSpeaking about the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi acknowledged that the situation there has become \u201cvery complicated\u201d.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n\t\tHowever, he said Iran continues to allow maritime traffic through the route, except for vessels belonging to countries \u201cat war\u201d with Iran.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n\t\u201cHormuz is open to all except those vessels of those countries who are in war with us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n


\n\tHe also said Iran is prepared to assist neutral shipping and expressed hope that conditions would return to normal after the conflict ends.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n\t\tThe Strait of Hormuz is one of the world\u2019s most critical energy chokepoints, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas shipments.<\/p>\n
