On Saturday, Iraq\u2019s Communications
\nand Media Commission (CMC) called on TikTok to comply with Iraqi laws and
\naddress the alleged use of some accounts in money laundering operations during
\na meeting with company officials in Ankara.<\/p>\n
On the sidelines of the Global
\nSymposium for Regulators (GSR26), Balegh Abu Kalal, the head of the CMC’s
\nexecutive body, stressed the need for digital platforms to remove
\nprohibited content and combat illegal activities, noting that Iraqi authorities
\nwould provide TikTok with monitoring reports related to violations recorded in
\nthe country.<\/p>\n
The commission invited the company\u2019s
\nrepresentatives to visit Baghdad to continue technical consultations and expand
\ncooperation.<\/p>\n
Iraq\u2019s Ministry of Communications
\nhad previously announced plans to ban TikTok over what it described as
\n\u201cinappropriate\u201d content on the platform, which is used by more than 34 million
\npeople in the country. According to TikTok\u2019s enforcement report, Iraq recorded
\nthe highest number of rule violations in the Middle East and North Africa
\n(MENA) region during the second quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n
