{"id":117791,"date":"2026-05-17T12:08:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T12:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/117791\/"},"modified":"2026-05-17T12:08:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T12:08:18","slug":"abbas-says-funds-israel-withholding-are-needed-to-continue-pay-for-slay-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/117791\/","title":{"rendered":"Abbas says funds Israel withholding are needed to continue &#8216;pay-for-slay&#8217; policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas admitted that tax funds being withheld by Israel would be used to fund Palestinian terrorists during a speech at the Eighth General Conference of Fatah.<\/p>\n<p>The comments confirm that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/article-894700\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PA has not ended its pay-for-slay policy<\/a>, even though it has restructured payments so they no longer reflect the prisoner\u2019s sentence and now distributes the funds under the guise of social welfare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cThe continued holding of Palestinian Authority funds by Israel is an unprecedented event that violates the agreements between the Palestinian Authority and Israel, as well as international law,\u201d Abbas claimed in his Fatah conference address. \u201c&#8230;The continued withholding of the Palestinian people\u2019s funds, which have so far exceeded $5 billion\u2026and all this needs to be paid to public employees, to prisoners (terrorists)\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Israel began withholding funds that the PA had used to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/article-885841\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pay the salaries of terrorists<\/a> in 2022, following similar legislation adopted by Washington in 2018. The Taylor Force Act has meant Washington is unable to offer economic aid to Ramallah until it ends pay-for-slay payments and its statements of public support for terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>Palestinian Media Watch founder and director Itamar Marcus commented to The Jerusalem Post that Abbas\u2019s \u201cadmission\u201d must have &#8220;significant international implications.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo justify continued funding of the PA, Western countries have been denying PMW findings that pay-for-slay continues, and have accepted Abbas&#8217; lies that it stopped funding terrorists in September 2025,\u201d he explained. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-886587\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Abbas\u2019s frank admission on camera<\/a> that he needs money to pay prisoners confirms PMW&#8217;s documentation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">&#8220;Israel will be wise if it uses this video to put pressure on the Western countries to stop funding PA terror, and to withhold their recognition of a Palestinian state, which France and others conditioned on the PA&#8217;s promise to end pay for slay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A total of $156 million was paid out to the terrorists and their families last year, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-896331\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">US<\/a> State Department report published last month. $126m. was paid to Palestinian terrorists, including those released from Israeli custody, and $30m. was paid to the families of Palestinian terrorists who died committing their acts of terrorism.
