Iran\u2019s Supreme National Security Council on Monday officially announced the formation of the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), a new body tasked with managing the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions with the United States.<\/p>\n
The council said the PGSA, launched on May 6, will provide \u201creal-time updates on the #Hormuz_Strait operations and latest developments.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSeparately, Iran\u2019s foreign ministry spokesperson said Iranian and Omani technical teams met in Oman to negotiate a mechanism for safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
The spokesperson added that Iran remains in contact with Oman and other concerned parties, with discussions set to continue next week at the expert level with Omani counterparts.<\/p>\n
According to the spokesperson, the PGSA has been established to enforce and administer the transit mechanism being developed in coordination with Oman.<\/p>\n
