Iran says US bases in the southern Persian Gulf will be disabled as Tehran rejects Washington\u2019s conditions over uranium, assets and the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
Iran intends to\u00a0disable all US\u00a0military bases in\u00a0the southern Persian Gulf, according to\u00a0a\u00a0statement by\u00a0Ebrahim Zolfaghari, the official representative of\u00a0the Khatam al-Anbiya central military command headquarters.<\/p>\n
Zolfaghari said on\u00a0social media that over the past 24 hours, the IRGC Navy had not allowed a\u00a0single vessel to\u00a0pass through the Strait of\u00a0Hormuz. He\u00a0also warned that US\u00a0military bases in\u00a0the southern part of\u00a0the Persian Gulf would soon be\u00a0deactivated.<\/p>\n
He\u00a0added that the Islamic Republic\u2019s\u00a0authorities intend to\u00a0establish a\u00a0\u00abnew order\u00bb.<\/p>\n
On\u00a0May 17, Fars reported that the White House had responded to\u00a0Tehran\u2019s\u00a0peace initiative by\u00a0putting forward five conditions of\u00a0its own. According to\u00a0the agency, Washington is\u00a0refusing to\u00a0compensate Iran for damage caused by\u00a0strikes, will not unfreeze even a\u00a0quarter of\u00a0blocked Iranian assets, and is\u00a0demanding that 400 kilograms of\u00a0uranium be\u00a0removed from Iran and handed over to\u00a0the United States.<\/p>\n
The US\u00a0is\u00a0also insisting that Tehran keep only one nuclear facility operating inside the country and halt hostilities.<\/p>\n
These demands effectively run counter to\u00a0the draft agreement Iran had sent to\u00a0the American side several times.
