{"id":120402,"date":"2026-05-19T01:08:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T01:08:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/120402\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T01:08:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T01:08:16","slug":"asia-markets-today-asx-sensex-nikkei-kospi-hang-seng-csi-300","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/120402\/","title":{"rendered":"Asia markets today: asx, sensex, nikkei, kospi, hang seng, csi 300"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pedestrians stand in front of an electronic quotation board displaying the Nikkei Stock Average on the Tokyo Stock Exchange along a street in Tokyo on March 23, 2026. <\/p>\n<p>Kazuhiro Nogi | Afp | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets opened broadly higher Tuesday as oil prices, while elevated, eased slightly following news that President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0was postponing a scheduled attack on Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Texas Intermediate<\/a>\u00a0futures for June was 1.27% lower at $107.28 per barrel as of 8:01 p.m. ET.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@LCO.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brent crude<\/a>\u00a0futures for July fell 2.67% at $109.11 per barrel.<\/p>\n<p>Investors were assessing Japan&#8217;s first-quarter GDP data, which showed the economy grew at an annualized 2.1% in the first three months of the year. The growth was sharply higher than the Reuters-polled analysts&#8217; average estimate of 1.7%, and against the 1.3% in the previous quarter. These figures do not capture the full impact of the Iran war, which started at the end of February.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a> gained 0.68%, while the Topix added 1.16%. <\/p>\n<p>A summit meeting between Japan&#8217;s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and South Korea&#8217;s President Lee Jae Myung later today will also be in focus. South Korea&#8217;s Kospi fell 1.06% while the small-cap Kosdaq was flat.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s ASX was 1.08% higher.  <\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hang Seng index<\/a>\u00a0futures were at 25,558, lower than the index&#8217;s last close of 25,675.18.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said\u00a0in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116597121700043134\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Truth Social post<\/a> that U.S. military leaders were informed to call off a &#8220;scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow&#8221; after requests from the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A Deal will be made, which will be very acceptable to the United States of America, as well as all Countries in the Middle East, and beyond. This Deal will include, importantly, NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN!,&#8221; Trump added. <\/p>\n<p>However, Trump cautioned that he has informed his military leaders &#8220;to be prepared to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment&#8217;s notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, the vital Strait of Hormuz remains closed by Tehran, while the U.S. continues to blockade Iranian ports. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As the Middle East conflict enters its third month, there is little prospect of a swift and durable settlement between the U.S. and Iran and with it the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz,&#8221; Moody&#8217;s said in a note. <\/p>\n<p>Stock Chart IconStock chart icon<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static-redesign.cnbcfm.com\/dist\/a54b41835a8b60db28c2.svg\" class=\"Collapsible-dismissButton\" alt=\"hide content\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@SP.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Futures tied to the S&amp;P 500<\/a>\u00a0were up 0.1%, while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a>\u00a0rose 0.2%.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow Jones Industrial Average futures<\/a>\u00a0advanced 25 points, or 0.05%.<\/p>\n<p>During Monday&#8217;s regular session, the broad market <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> benchmark dropped 0.07% to end at 7,403.05, while the tech-heavy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq<\/a> slid 0.51% and closed at 26,090.73. It was the second straight day of declines for both indexes.
