{"id":121248,"date":"2026-05-19T13:20:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T13:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/121248\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T13:20:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T13:20:09","slug":"iraq-deploys-special-teams-for-eid-to-tackle-harassment-celebratory-gunfire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/121248\/","title":{"rendered":"Iraq deploys special teams for Eid to tackle harassment, celebratory gunfire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BAGHDAD \u2014 Iraq\u2019s Interior Ministry said Tuesday it would deploy special teams during Eid al-Adha to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.964media.com\/43890\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">address harassment<\/a>, prevent <a href=\"https:\/\/en.964media.com\/43524\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">celebratory gunfire<\/a> and enforce security measures across cities and public gathering areas.<\/p>\n<p>Maj. Gen. Miqdad Miri, head of the ministry\u2019s Relations and Media Department, said the Eid security plan would include \u201cwide deployment of emergency patrols and intelligence efforts\u201d near religious shrines, Hussainiyas, mosques and cemeteries. \u201cWe formed special teams to follow up on negative cases, including harassment cases, in addition to preventing gunfire and firecrackers and pursuing violators,\u201d he said. Authorities will also use radar systems to monitor speeding on highways.<\/p>\n<p>Celebratory gunfire remains a recurring public safety issue in Iraq during religious holidays, weddings and sporting events, with stray bullets causing injuries and deaths each year. Earlier this year, the Health Ministry reported hundreds of injuries linked to fireworks and gunfire during New Year\u2019s celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>Baghdad Operations Command said the security plan would be implemented in phases across Defense and Interior Ministry units and intelligence agencies, with search and inspection operations continuing to pursue \u201coutlaws and organized criminal gangs.\u201d Motorcycle traffic and horse-drawn carts will be restricted in crowded areas and public markets.
